last week, i went on a drive to one of my favorite places, hancock county, georgia. i passed this abandoned house and wasn't going to stop (because, you know, we stop at *so* many abandoned houses already!), but then i saw the smokehouse out back through a last glance in my rearview mirror and i knew i had to turn around. it is always a little sad to see houses with good bones like these falling to ruin. but, then again, that is part of their mystery and charm.

secret pond
a friend took me to see a secret, spring fed pond. it was beautiful and dark, and surrounded by tall pines. chartreuse water lilies broke up the darkness. the bright color of the lily pads and the reflections of grey skies and floating pine straw was way beyond dreamy. must go back there to paint....!

house in the woods
i spied this old homeplace hiding in the woods. it almost looked cheery with all the daffodils blooming in the front yard! enormous oaks surrounded it. now it's just fading into history, all alone. i love to explore these old places.
