made by hand
we were excited when we heard about the forthcoming book by lena corwin, made by hand...the brooklyn-based artist & designer's last book has been a favorite of ours. but, one reason we are particularly excited about the new book is because it features the georgia-based wendy hanson (full disclosure: wendy is my sister-in-law...). check out the preview of the book and order one up, if you feel inspired to learn how to make something new.

overgrown beauty
I drove by this overgrown place and had to go back. i love rust, and i love when nature gradually takes over, one tendril at a time.

Lee's greenhouse
our friend lee has a charming little compound in the heart of athens. the expansive property is filled with lots of character and history. i always love a visit to the hill. the other day i met some friends out there and we wandered. lee's garden is neat and sweet....but his greenhouse caught my eye. i love that it is tucked under into the earth and filled with green in and around it. enjoy!

hearty begonias and jewels of opar
two of my favorite things are blooming right now, both pink: hearty begonia and jewels of opar. love them! especially when they are in salvaged jars that we find when we are digging in the yard...

roasting coffee beans in a cast iron
a familiy friend from ethiopia gave me some green coffee beans and shared how her family roasts their coffee back home. still to this day she roasts a batch each week.
the directions are easy for this one....
-put your coffee beans in your cast iron skillet -turn on your stove to medium high
-keep moving the pan...don't stop!
-roast the beans until they are the darkness that you prefer.
-and there you go, coffee for the week!

our book on display
i was just at the NY NOW gift market in NYC. i went and took a peek at our book on display at our distributor's booth. it made me so proud to see it on the shelf surrounded by other amazing books by and about people i admire and am inspired by.

branch road
this one i found on a dirt road. a typical two room shack with a caved-in add on in the back. all the mantles and hardware are gone, but the mystery remains...

antioch church road
i hope everyone likes shacks as much as i do. i've decided it's high time i get out and document all the fading homesites, outbuildings, and barns that dot the countryside. they hold so much history. they're often hidden beneath an overgrowth of vines, trees, and privet on the side of the road. once you duck behind the wall of green, you find yourself alone with the mystery of who lived there. i take pictures all around and peer in the windows to document the inside. i have a rule, since i am tresspassing, that i don't go inside. a lot of the floors are rotted out or about to. i can be alone with the past, and i love it. enjoy!

Sunflower silhouettes
the further we go into the summer..... the drier our sunflowers get. i find them to so lovely against the blue and white of the sky.... just as lovely as a fresh bloom!
