by the river
if you're looking for the antidote to feeling hurried, stressed out, or anxious, the answer is nature. spend an hour or two at your nearest nature park, woods, or botanical garden. the japanese have a word that translates into 'forrest bathing', and studies have shown it reduces stress and calms your nerves and helps depression, too. pack a snack, your water, a sweater, and get lost in the woods! leave your phone in the car. unplug. breathe in, and walk. . . .

hawkes creek farm
i visited yvonne at hawkes creek farm this weekend. a glorious fall day to visit a real treasure. the house was built in 1840 and is largely intact. all wood walls inside and patina to die for. when you first come in the driveway, it is all but obscured by the deep shadows of ancient oaks. inside is poetry…..

last of the pokes
the long dry summer is finally giving up the ghost as cool winds and blue skies appear. i went to visit a few pokeberry patches along the river, admiring their magenta stems and lovely colors. goodbye till next year, pokeberries. thanks for all the beauty!

truck love
i saw this truck for sale on my morning walk. always loved this model in this color. i don't need a truck now, but it might be worth it just to stare at the turquoise and rust color in the back!

tapestries
not sure why i call these tapestries, except this explosion of life and color and birth and death is like a giant tapestry of life; full of color and pattern and life. if i had a ton of patience i would make big photorealistic paintings of these, or maybe a giant hooked rug, and just stare at it all day. entranced by the colorful chaos.
secret meadow
i came across this glowing meadow as the sun was setting. there is a hint of fall color. it seemed so magical….

goldenrod
there is a big patch of goldenrod at the botanical garden here. they let it grow wild by the river, and it is 6 - 10 feet tall! right now it is still mostly budded up and in chartreuse mode. i will go back in a week or so for a full on golden explosion!

by the river
i love to go to the botanical gardens here and walk the river trail. we are having a long summer here. still 80's every day, so not much signs of fall. it's also been dry, so lots of plants are just giving up the ghost. the vines and overgrowth along the river are either still green or have withered away. at any rate, overgrowth is a love of mine.

trinity church
edisto island has lots of history, of dinosaurs, extinct mammals, indians, slaves, and plantations. there are a some beautiful churches that have survived hurricanes and wars.
here is one called trinity church. it was built in 1876. all the old churches are surrounded by ancient live oaks dripping with moss.

little brick building
another cute little building in olar. it used to be a laundromat many years ago, but would make a great coffee shop or studio.

olar
about 30 miles south of barn well, south carolina, is olar. a well manicured, but deserted town. one of many in the area. there used to be an antique shop in one of them 25 years ago or so, but nothing now. would make a great looking resettlement town! so many cute buildings, and probably cheap!
