foggy country drive
a few weeks ago, i went on a little roadtrip, to the south. setting out in early morning meant that i was passing through the fog for most of my drive, and it was so pretty. i stopped a few times to take photographs, and then, of course, i had to stop by one of our favorite houses, the mason house, too, because it was right on the way...then i crossed a lake twice and got the almost all white photos below...

last week, i went on a drive to one of my favorite places, hancock county, georgia. i passed this abandoned house and wasn't going to stop (because, you know, we stop at *so* many abandoned houses already!), but then i saw the smokehouse out back through a last glance in my rearview mirror and i knew i had to turn around. it is always a little sad to see houses with good bones like these falling to ruin. but, then again, that is part of their mystery and charm.

a favorite spot of mine, graves barn stand tall near downtown sparta, georgia. it has not changed much in the 15 years that i have been visiting, and its folk gothic woodwork gets me every time. this style is very unique to the area; to my knowledge there aren't any other structures with these forms. and, on this late fall day, the barn was the perfect backdrop for the colors of the drying grasses and dark plum-reds of the leaves nearby.

the nolan house
recently, I revisited one of our favorite spots...just outside of town. This house is abandoned, but someone has taken the time to board up the windows since my last visit. While it makes for dim light within the house, it will help it stay a little more protected.

rebecca, georgia
on the way to albany last week, i made a side trip to visit rebecca, georgia. it was a gorgeous fall day for road tripping. i was proud to see the water tower with my name on it, but all that was left otherwise was a quickie mart. the little row of brick shops was all caved in and windows gone. nothing available there now but beauty.

exploring
i'm exploring my new neighborhood. it backs up to an old brick sewing factory, covered in vines. i fell in love with some blue graffiti on the lovely brown rust.

abandoned gin
recently, on a drive to the south carolina coast, i passed this abandoned cotton gin...the roof had fallen in, but the machines were still standing tall.

mcclellanville, SC
i spent time north of charleston recently and loved discovering the hidden town of mcclellanville. (kristen was actually there too just a few months ago.) i could not believe all of the architectural gems tucked away behind the spanish moss and along the marsh...enjoy!

Read Morehouse in the woods
i spied this old homeplace hiding in the woods. it almost looked cheery with all the daffodils blooming in the front yard! enormous oaks surrounded it. now it's just fading into history, all alone. i love to explore these old places.

driving through the country the other day my eye caught a glimpse of this lovely grave yard. i imagine it is a family plot on their farm land. with the green of spring and the blue of the sky they really popped and still hinted a bit of mystery. photos and words by kristen bach
