kinfolk community gathering #2: honey harvest
in the spring, i hosted a flower potluck party on behalf of kinfolk magazine...for the summer community gathering, we will be going to 3 porch farm to celebrate the honey harvest. our farming friends, mandy & steve, will lead a tour of their beautiful farm and talk about beekeeping and honey harvesting. the group will also taste different local honey, make their own herbal-infused honey, and enjoy food & drink made with honey: mead, cookies, and the famous honeypops that 3 porch farm makes themselves.
if you would like to come along to the gathering, you may purchase tickets here.

sowing seeds
We just moved to a place with a big garden in the country. I have been chipping away at planting it and yesterday I finally had an entire day to work on it. We got most of our seeds from seed exchange places with heirloom varieties, many that are new to me. We are getting excited for a plentiful season and making lots of meals from our garden!

Fleury Sheep and Wool
The other day I went on a field trip with my friend Kat from Sweet Olive Farm. We headed north to Clarkesville, Georgia to a place where she brings her Alpaca Wool to get processed.
Every year their Alpacas are sheered and the wool is brought to Fleury Sheep and Wool to be cleaned and made into yarn. It was a fun day learning about the long process and seeing the beautiful end product. It is really quite facinating. Thanks Kat for the fun little road trip!!
If you didn't catch our story on Sweet Olive Farm's sweet Alpacas, click here! They are the best!

This is how I spent my Sunday. Hanging out with our friends Alpacas. Their sweet smiles and gently demeanor makes them so irresistible. Thanks Sweet Olive Farm for letting us play!

Urban Farm School in Asheville
I was reading one of my favorite blogsn this morning; small measure and fell in love with her latest post on the Urban Farm School. After thinking long and hard how I forget about my current responsibilities and pack my bags and go I thought writing about it may take it off my mind for a little bit. Asheville is only a few hours away.......hmmmm........

Growing Shitakes
We recently visited with our friends Mandy and Steve at their farm, 3 Porch Farm. We were there in the Spring when Steve began the Shitake inoculation process....and here we are 5 months later with pounds of mushrooms. It was a little exciting.
