old tin shed
this is a typical out building that you may see out in the country. i just love the corrugated tin, especially when it rusts! enjoy the textures.

drayton hall
longtime fans of r.wood studio will remember that we had a space on their old website where we wrote about things we loved around the south, called Ideas for Creative Living. dating back to 2001, that space eventually grew into this space, beauty everyday, in 2009. today, we wanted to share one of our favorite places that originally ran, way back when, on Ideas... Drayton Hall, outside of charleston, south carolina. we will let the pictures do the talking...

this is a staple around our house throughout the summer. i love it over pasta, rice, quinoa, or just alone. my recipe really changes with what i have fresh from the garden.

fresh tomatoes

3 cloves of chopped garlic
salt and pepper
a handful of fresh basil

so close
sometimes the shack you see on the side of the road is so overgrown you can't really get near it. this one is really old, with old shake shingles visible.
how i wish i could get closer and see the inside!
oh well, some mysteries must remain.

favorite places
one of my favorite places to photograph is hancock county, georgia. an hour or so from athens, the drive down is through scenic farmland and river forests, but the best part really is arriving at the destination; you know you are there when the county courthouse looms into view. while exploring the patchwork of beautiful historic buildings, the deepness of this place comes across in its structures, whether humble or grand, restored or fallen. this church is one of my favorite places within the county lines, or anywhere.

late summer: lines
while there are many colorful, full blooms in the garden right now, it is also a good time to dry flowers. here are some that have been lingering in my studio...some for a few months, some for a few years- i just can't bring myself to throw them out because i love their shapes too much. i thought i might make some light drawings of them today, but it is too rainy. so, for now, i hope you enjoy their lines as much as i do...the forms of black-eyed susan, allium, acanthus, maple, datura, cardoon, peanut, & collard.

chanterelles
with all of the rain, we have had a great mushroom hunting season. from may to now we have been able to feast on chanterelles daily. we love to keep it simple. saute them in olive oil, salt & pepper, and spring onions....serve them on some crackers or fresh bread.
