i just walked through the botanical gardens the other day and saw that all of the irises were up and ready to show their faces! i'm not sure what kind of spring we will have this year.
irises are a coming!

winter gardens
i have said this time and time again, we are so lucky to have an all year growing season. it always makes me happy to see winter gardens. the plants look tough and strong which helps then get through the cold nights.
yesterday we visited a lovely garden of a couple who moved a big farmhouse to their lot 19 years ago. they have created this amazing space and eat from their garden all year long. i left their country home....feeling inspired.

they also had a room of vines that was magical.

junk store blues
the other day my dad found an ad for an estate sale in comer, ga. we headed there first thing in the morning. people now put the label estate sale on everything. this particular estates sale was a little junk store that was going out of business. we found some good things like old bottles, tins and i scored a vintage stroller for my shop! there is always something to be found.

at the lake
i visited clark’s hill lake recently. georgia has no natural lakes. all we have is man made with a dam. we’ve had a dry year, and all the lakes are down. the mud bottoms revealed are cracked and growing grass. there’s lots of pine trees all around and a storm blowing through, so there was plenty of lonely beauty to experience.

kat and sue's big ol' house
our friend nancy sold her big ol’ house to our friends kat and susan. the wonderful spirit of the big ol’ house lives on in their wonderful, colorful arrangements and accents around the home. here’s a look - stay tuned for more on the big ol' house!

scattered, smothered, and covered
if you have ever driven south, i am sure that you have stumbled upon not just one but hundreds of waffle houses along the way. eating at them is always an experience....and i mean that in a good way. they still crack every egg by hand, make every hash brown to order, the coffee cups are stacked in perfect order, and i am always amazed at their shouting system of relaying orders. their old time system works and those pecan waffles keep me coming back!

the world's smallest airport

it's no secret that there is no shortage of creative folks here in athens. apparently this has always been the case. last night we went to Cine to view the movie "the world's smallest airport"- a documentary of the thrasher brothers aerial circus. all i can say is, it was fantastic!
if you didn't catch it in athens, there is a free screening at the elberton theater in elberton, GA.
see a trailer of the movie

the best mac and cheese...ever
you can get mac and cheese at just about anywhere you go in the south- and everyone does it different. some cheesy..some creamy. some better than others.
yesterday i made
which i cannot take any credit for. it was surely worth mentioning though. this is one of the best mac and cheeses that i have ever eaten. the nutmeg in the recipe may sound strange but trust me it makes it amazing.
